2018 Cool Weather Greenhouse Forums

Cost saving greenhouse heating in focus for year round farm series:

STATEWIDE – The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society is hosting a 2018 Cool Weather Growing Series with forums and farm tour focused on greenhouse and year round production in Maine. The series kicks off Oct. 11 at the University of Maine Presque Isle with a discussion on “Year Round Agriculture for Aroostook County” and run through November with topics on heat and energy saving systems that save money and increase viability of season extension and year round production for Maine farmers and greenhouse producers.

The events include a mixture of traditional farm tours and community forums. The tours will showcase cost saving heating and energy systems that show promise for other Maine growers. The forums will discuss new innovations and bring agriculture, policy and education to the table leaders to discuss potential impact in their respective communities.

In addition to the heating and energy innovations for farmers, environmental and energy monitoring via remote sensors will be an key technology that will be discussed for its ability to create new technology jobs, create opportunities for school districts to build STEM curriculum with direct links to Maine agriculture, and to provide analysis of non-fossil fuel based heating and energy systems on the market.
