The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society has developed an excel-based spreadsheet tool for appropriate scaling of small farm infrastructure. The tool has been developed Maine vegetable farmers who sell in the direct market but are considering scaling their operations toward wholesale, but is applicable across scales and crops. In addition to production economics, it integrates infrastructure, energy, heating and fuel into useful metrics for sustainability.
A webinar on the tool, on Monday October 1st from 1:00 to 2:20PM will also welcome feedback from farmers and convene discussions of season extension and year round production in Maine.
